 The Bishnupur temple is a modern art form where the artist through his painting expresses his emotions and views on the modern world. The Bishnupur temple complex consists of 20 temples. The first of these, the Mrinmayee Temple, was built in 997 CE by King Jagat Malla. The temples of Bishnupur reflect the local architecture of Bengal and most of them were built between 1622 CE and 1758 CE. Burnt clay bricks were used as a substitute for stone in Bengal due to a lack of stone, and Bengali architects discovered a new means of creating a beautiful craft known as ‘Terracotta.’ The art of terracotta reached its pinnacle in the seventeenth century. Raja Jagat Malla and his descendants constructed a number of terracotta and stone art temples.
